Friday 10th September

 

OPENING NIGHT - Official Festival Opening of Classics in Wartook Valley Festival

Celebrate the official festival opening with special guests and opening night celebrations.

 

TIME: 6pm Start

LOCATION: The Wander Inn, 2637 Northern Grampians Rd, Wartook

 

EXHIBITION – Spring’s Spectrum

A multi media exhibition displaying works by talented local artists, inspired by the colours of Spring in the Grampians.  Works are created using mixed media, including felt, quilting, appliqué, ceramics, painting and woodwork.

 

DATE: Friday 6th September – 10th October 

LOCATION: Wartook Artists Studio, 2637 Northern Grampians Rd, Wartook.

 

MEAL – Buffet Meal and Silent Auction

Following the official opening proceedings, enjoy a hearty and classic range of home-style favourites and side dishes.  Take the opportunity to purchase local goods and services during the Silent Auction.

 

TIME: 7.30pm

FILM – Classic Australian Film

Horsham Film Society presents a special screening of the classic Australian film, A Town Like Alice.  This black and white, 1957 film will be shown via 16mm projector.

 

TIME: 9pm

EXHIBITION – Photography Exhibition

View the region from an alternate perspective with a photography exhibition prepared and developed by local children from Laharum Primary School.  Enjoy an exhibition with a difference with the sights drawn from Spring in the Grampians.

 

DATE: Saturday 11th – Sunday 12th Sept.

TIME: 9am – 3pm

LOCATION: Laharum Hall, 1586 Northern Grampians Rd, Laharum

COST: Gold Coin Donation.  All proceeds to benefit Laharum Primary School

 

TOURS – Nature Walk

Located on 40 acres of natural bush land at the edge of the Grampians National Park, Orchid Lane offers you the chance to experience local wildlife, bird life and wildflowers at its best.  Explore and observe native and unique orchids to the area.

 

DATE: Saturday 11th – Sunday 12th Sept.

TIME: Guided Tours 10-11am & 2-3pm, Self Guided Tours 10am – 4pm

 TOURS – Wartook Gardens B&B Open Gardens

Set on 70 acres and from a bare paddock, hosts Royce and Jeanne have developed a multi-award winning and internationally recognised Australian plant and exotic garden.  10 acres with over 115 bird species and approximately 1,000 species of Australian plants

TOUR & EXHIBITION – Wartook Views

Enjoy a unique private collection of fully restored horse drawn vehicles nestles amidst the valley.  From a massive May and Miller wagon built locally in Horsham, to a Pony Phaeton built in Boston, by Thomas Goddard. 

 

Special feature artist, Jennifer Sutterby will also be on display with her beautifully compiled arrangement of rural artworks.  Jennifer’s rural background shines throughout her choice of subject matter, reflecting her aim to paint familiar subjects with feeling and in a realistic manner.

TOURS & LUNCH – Laharum Grove & Toscana Olives

Take time to explore the area’s local produce nestled beneath the dramatic western escarpment of the Mount Difficult range in the Grampians National Park.  Laharum Grove will be offering tours of their very own grown, pressed and produced olives within their property.  Picnic baskets will also be available to enjoy within the olive groves.  Bookings essential.  Don’t miss out!

RECITAL – Accord & Emily Matskows

Enjoy the sort-after sounds and beautiful composition of Martin Welch (1st violin), Miranda Fyfield (2nd violin), Brenton Fyfield (viola), and Emma Ayres (cello).  Classically trained musicians, Accord will come together to perform classical pieces from Joseph Haydn (composed in 1772) and Beethoven (composed 1800).

 

This afternoon’s recital will be complimented by budding musician, Emily Matskows.  Emily Rose, 9 years old of Port Fairy, will open this afternoon’s recital on the harp.  With only 3 years experience, Emily’s outstanding talent is breathtaking.  Enjoy Scottish, Irish and Classical pieces of music from this truly beautiful young and upcoming harpist.

FILM – Classic Australian Films

Horsham Film Society presents a special screening of the classic Australian film, Forty Thousand Horseman.  This black and white, 1940 film will be shown via 16mm projector.

 

No one misses out here, with a classic Australian children’s film on show too- a great time out for all!

EVENING MEAL & ENTERTAINMENT – Festival Night

Saturday evening offers you a chance to stimulate your senses with tasting plates from local producers and wine, to a beautiful two course meal.  Enjoy the evening with local musicians, Denise and Peter McGennisken, playing throughout the night with a range easy listening from dinner to dance music.

 

TIME: 7pm start

COST: $30 per person.  Includes 2 course meal and entertainment.

 

Sunday 12th September

BREAKFAST SESSION – Laharum Grove

Take this early morning opportunity to view the Northern Grampians from a different perspective and enjoy a charming deconstructed farmhouse breakfast in the olive grove, featuring none other than classical ensemble, Accord.  Entitled “Sunrise”, indulge yourself within the classical notes of Joseph Haydn composed in 1796-97.

MARKET – Market Extravaganza

Take this opportunity to enjoy a family-friendly day out!  Browse, sample and purchase an amazing array of local produce from the Grampians and Wimmera region.  Enjoy local artists and musicians at work, try our classic games of bocce, complete with entertainment for children, the market will also display a range of classic and vintage vehicles, motorcycles and sump oilers.
